10 Trucks, Vans and Construction Vehicles Worth Waiting for in 2016
It's a very interesting year in the truck industry with quite a few noteworthy models being already released and those that are planned to be released in the nearest future. Volvo has presented the largest ever articulated hauler. The next-generation Mercedes-Benz flagship revealed itself at Brisbane Truck Show. Iveco not only presented their new Magelys bus, but already managed to get rewarded for the International Coach of the Year.
We have assembled a list of vehicles we are excited about. Here is the top 10 you should know of. Share your thoughts with us in the comments!
10. Iveco Magelys
The Euro 6 version of the Iveco Magelys Pro bears a noble title "Coach of the Year 2016". It won the hearts of the jury with the so-called "Silver Smile" – a brightwork styling of the lower panel carrying the Iveco name. This design trend is now applied to all Iveco integral buses and coaches.
Behind the attractive appearance are no less attractive technologies. Thus, instead of Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) the Magelys Pro utilizes simpler, cleaner and more efficient Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) to control engine exhaust emissions.
Being a tourist bus, this smiling and appealing coach can be proud of its extremely high levels of safety. It is equipped with such latest technological innovations in the field as Lane Departure Warning System (LDWS) and Advanced Emergency Braking System (AEBS). On top of that Iveco Magelys is produced with a self-supporting structure to ensure passengers security in case of a roll-over accident.
9. John Deere S-series combines
The company, which machines harvest half the world's grain, has updated its successful lineup of S-series combine harvesters.
The contributing enhancements are based on the customers' wants and needs. As a result, 2016 model productivity is increased through a 12% larger cleaning sieve, a new shoe drive system, and in case of shoe-limited conditions there is a Dyna-Flow™ Plus cleaning system to boost combine capacity up to 10% in corn and 13% in wheat. To minimize grain loss while travelling up and down the slopes John Deere has started to equip its combines with Active Terrain Adjustment™. Other novelties include a field-installed Active Yield attachment to improve the accuracy of calibration and an onboard air compressor to facilitate cleaning and maintenance.
8. Volvo 7900
Volvo Bus Corporation offers us to listen to our cities introducing the 7900 Electric Hybrid. A silent and emissions-free bus is believed to set new standards in city development. This is the answer to the noise pollution issue. The 7900 opens up the future of indoor bus stops (e.g., in shopping malls, airports) and driving in sensitive zones (e.g., close to hospitals, schools). All this is possible due to 70% of power generated by electricity and fast charging system of batteries. The system is able to be installed into ordinary bus stops and work automatically.
This Volvo hybrid is a part of a 2016 city bus pilot in Navi Mumbai – a planned township in the most populous Indian city.
7. John Deere 9RX Series
The average man might look at the 9RX Series in surprise, but to a specialist's eye there is nothing special in it. Such tracked models of agricultural tractors are designed to tackle any terrain. Besides, the American manufacturer did its best to make the tractors be excellent at sticking to the sidehills (reducing the chance of implement drift).
The John Deere 4-track versions are prominent for drive lugs that represent the positive-drive system (in comparison with 2-track design that uses guide lugs in a friction drive mechanism).
The tracks feature a sealed mid-roller, covered with a rubber or poly coating. The power is provided by either of two engines: a 13.5-liter John Deere PowerTech PSS or a Cummins QSX15. Both engines boast high horsepower, which ranges from 470 hp to 620 hp.
6. Volvo A60H
Volvo Construction Equipment has proved to be the world's top manufacturer of articulated haulers. 50 years ago this company developed and launched the very first vehicle of such a kind. And this year the company has hit the market unveiling the 55-tonne A60H – the largest articulated hauler in history.
Great performance of the dumper is guaranteed by the matched driveline, automatic drive combinations (with 100% locking differential), hydro-mechanical steering and active suspension.
And as any Volvo truck, the A60H is significant for its cab environment (which is one of the most comfortable and productive) and referred to as the Volvo Care Cab.
5. Liebherr PR776
Liebherr has brought out its biggest ever crawler dozer PR776 at the recent Bauma 2016. It is a remarkable addition to the family of 70 t crawler dozers. The PR 776 is the first hydrostatically-powered model in this weight class. The infinitely variable hydrostatic travel drive allows the crawler to show the superior manoeuvrability with continuous power to both tracks.
The newly shown Liebherr is powered by a 12-cylinder diesel engine producing 759 hp. The company has developed a special drive concept for its innovative dozer. It is based on optimization of all the processes and offers on-demand services. As in case of the hydraulic servo pressure system that is able to return the part of pressure supply that is not required. Another example is the proactive power control. The engine power can be automatically modified for a brief period according to the recorded data of internal engine and external machine parameters.
4. Ford Transit Connect 2016
Ford Transit vans belong to stable and dominant models on the European market of light commercial vehicles. As befits a true leader, it constantly undergoes modernization to meet the most recent requirements. Even if the changes are not numerous, a new release is an additional reason to draw attention to.
In case of Ford Transit Connect – a van with the driving dynamics of a small car – the fresh elements include the 3d generation of Ford SYNC hands-free infotainment system and a Blind Spot Information System (registered as "BLIS") with cross-traffic alert.
3. Volkswagen Crafter 2016 and MAN TGE 2017
The largest 3 to 5 ton van in Volkswagen's LCV line, the Crafter, deserves double attention this year.
Firstly, the next generation 2016 model will be a pure Volkswagen Group design (by contrast with the current version production that involved Daimler participation). As for technical components, the new Crafters will be available in a range of bodystyles and feature the same tried-and-true 2-litre TDi engine, which generates from 109 to 165 hp (though there are rumours about greater output).
Secondly, the expected Volkswagen Crafter will pave the way for its twin MAN TGE light commercial vehicle, which is to be shown at IAA 2016 and launched in 2017. The TGE will complete the MAN offers range that have lacked light vans until now.
2. Scania R580 2016
The R580 has begun selling like hotcakes since its release. It's, for sure, the sign of complete trust in Scania's R-series. And this is hardly surprising, as the series have been honored with "Truck of the Year" award twice already (2005, 2010).
Equipped with a V8 engine that develops 580 hp, the new model is one of the most powerful tractor units on the road. Furthermore, featuring Scania's well-accepted high sleeper cab, the R580 guarantees high standards in comfort and performance for life en route.
1. Mercedes-Benz Actros 2016
Since the Brisbane Truck Show 2015 Australia has been awaiting the next-generation Mercedes-Benz Actros 2663LS to appear on its highways later this year.
The new 6x4 long-haul distance tractor unit is powered by an all-new in line 6-cylinder Daimler engine that outperform the current V8 in terms of power output and fuel economy. The 16-litre engine variant pushes out 625 hp. Fuel efficiency is provided by a new high pressure injection system – Amplified Pressure Common Rail System (APCRS).
Another reason to praise the new Mercedes-Benz Actros is the redefined Powershift 3 automated transmission, which gearshift time is 20% quicker. Of course, there a lot more innovations, but in order not to make the rest of the world jealous, we just stop here and send our heartiest congratulations to the lucky one Australia.
